From Rejected Start-Up Idea To Billionaire

November, 2014 By By: L.A. Brandenburg Leave a Comment

Fancy yourself an entrepreneur or inventor? Not all of your ideas will be winners – But don’t give up.

The idea for Dropbox came from Drew Houston (a now 30-something year old billionaire). Dropbox wasn’t his first attempt at making it big however.

Before coming up with Dropbox, Houston had one of his ideas rejected from Y Combinator (a well known startup program) in 2005. The head of the program said Houston’s idea was just not very good. The company he wanted to start? A SAT prep company.

Maybe there is a need for an SAT prep company, but not in one of the most famous startup accelerator programs in the world.

Houston did not give up, however, and that is a lesson to learn here. He soldiered on and eventually solved the file storage problem with Dropbox, which incidentally is worth billions.

So don’t give up! Even Michael Jordan was not accepted into his high school varsity basketball team!
